Breweries
With more than five breweries in and around Nelson City (and one in Golden Bay) this region is a beer drinker's paradise. And that reputation is growing with some great beers being produced in the region. International Beer Awards are hosted here every year. Also you might be interested to know that Nelson is the only area in NZ where hops in grown - a key ingredient in making beer. The hot, reliable Nelson sun makes for a perfect climate for growing hops. This is used in making our own local brews and is also exported around the world.
